He may not know this, but Julien Beaupré Ste-Marie is partially responsible for changing my life. As the photo editor at enRoute magazine, Julien gave me my first location shoot outside of Montreal. Before then, I had shot barely a handful of local assignments and was dying to be sent away. He had me flown to Phoenix in June of 2011, when I was still holding down a full time job and trying to figure out this whole freelance thing. In Phoenix, I shot one of my favourite assignments to date and ended up with my first cover. Since then, I’ve worked on many more jobs with Julien, quit my day job, and traveled for enRoute, around the province of Quebec and in the Caribbean. I mean how could you not love a guy who sends you to take photographs (!) under the Caribbean sun, in the dead of winter? <3
Julien is not just a photo editor though, he’s also very active as a curator, look for his shows at the upcoming Flash Forward Festival in Boston, next month, and as a producer. Do take a minute to check out his beautiful newly launched website, which features Julien’s edits of work by a number of talented photographers, shot all over the world.
